Okay, so today I wanna talk about my little project digging into Sergio Garcia’s golf gear. I’ve always been a bit of a golf nerd, and Garcia’s one of my favorites, so I thought, why not see what this guy’s using on the course?
I started this whole thing by just poking around online. I mean, who doesn’t start with Google, right? I searched for “witb sergio garcia” and started reading whatever came up. At first it seems just a few ads and general stuff about his wins and all that, but I kept at it. After a few clicks, I found some forum posts and a couple of articles that got into the nitty-gritty of his equipment.
Then, I grabbed a pen and my trusty notebook and started jotting things down. I made a list of all the clubs mentioned in the articles, you know, drivers, woods, irons, wedges, and the putter. It was kinda cool to see it all laid out like that. But I didn’t stop there. I wanted more details, like, what’s the shaft, what’s the loft, how old is this gear?
This is where it got a bit tricky. I had to jump back and forth between different websites to cross-reference the information. Some sites had great info on his driver, but not so much on his irons. Others had awesome pictures but were light on the specs. It was like piecing together a puzzle, and I was determined to get all the pieces.
I also tried to find out when each piece of equipment was added to his bag. Like, I read somewhere that he recently switched to this new putter at the 2024 US Open. So, I marked that down and tried to find out what putter he was using before that. It’s like tracking the evolution of his game through his gear, which is pretty fascinating to me.
My findings were pretty interesting:
- Driver: So, it looks like he’s been using the TaylorMade Qi10 Max, set at 9.0 degrees but tweaked down to 7. The shaft is a Fujikura Ventus Black 6. But also I found that he has used PING G430 Max 8 with a Fujikura Ventus Red 7X shaft. That’s a serious piece of equipment.
- Woods: For his 3-wood, he’s got a Stealth 2 Plus 13.5, with a Fujikura Ventus Black 7X shaft, and for the 5-wood, another Stealth 2 Plus at 19.
- Irons: Apparently, he’s big on TaylorMade P7-MB blades. I mean, those are sleek.
- Wedges: He uses a TaylorMade MG4, 52 degrees, and a Titleist Vokey SM9 WedgeWorks proto with 58 degrees of loft.
- Putter: Now, this one was a surprise. He’s recently switched to a Never Compromise Reserve 4. I guess he’s always experimenting to find that perfect feel.
After I felt like I had a good handle on his current setup, I started comparing it to what other pros are using. I read a few articles on that and even watched some videos of equipment reviews. It’s cool to see how different players have different preferences. Some guys like a heavier shaft, others go for a more forgiving clubhead. It’s all about personal style and what works best for your swing, I guess.
In the end, I made this big, detailed chart in my notebook with all of Garcia’s clubs, their specs, and when he started using them. I even added a column comparing them to other pros’ gear. It took me a good few days, but it was a blast. I learned a lot about golf equipment, and I got a better appreciation for what Garcia’s using to stay at the top of his game. Plus, now I have this cool little reference guide whenever I want to geek out about golf gear.
