Okay, so I wanted to figure out the average size of an NFL linebacker. I mean, those guys are HUGE, right? But how huge, exactly? I decided to get to the bottom of it.
Getting Started
First, I needed to find some data. You know, I thought there would be a simple website listing all the players and their sizes. Nope! It wasn’t that easy. I had to dig around a bit.
Digging for Data
I started by checking out the official NFL website. I figured they’d have all the player stats, but it was a bit of a maze. I spent a good chunk of time just navigating through team rosters and individual player profiles. It was kind of tedious, to be honest.

Finding the Numbers
Eventually, I started finding player weights and heights. But it was like, one by one. I was writing them down on a piece of paper like a caveman. I soon realized, “This is gonna take forever!” So, I thought, there’s gotta be a better way. Some websites had compiled lists of players from different teams, which made it a little easier to gather data. I started copying and pasting those into a spreadsheet.

Crunching the Numbers
Once I had a decent amount of data in my spreadsheet (I aimed for at least a few linebackers from each team, to get a good mix), I could start calculating. I used the good old “AVERAGE” function. I made one for height and another for weight.
The Results!
After all that work, I finally got some numbers! It looks like the average NFL linebacker is somewhere around 6’2″ to 6’3″ and weighs in between 240 to 250 pounds. I mean some are, shorter,some are taller,some are heavier,some are *’s pretty massive! Of course, this is just an average. You’ve got some guys who are a bit smaller and quicker, and others who are absolute giants. But it gives you a good idea of the general size of these athletes.
It was a bit of a process, but hey, I got my answer. Now I can impress my friends with my newfound knowledge of linebacker sizes! Or maybe not… they might just think I’m weird for spending my time on this. Oh well!
