Alright, so I’ve been hyped for College Football 25 like everyone else, and I really wanted to nail down the read option. It’s a big part of the college game, so mastering it felt crucial. Here’s how I went about figuring out the controls.

First Attempts (and Failures)

My first instinct was just to jump into a game and wing it. I figured, “How hard could it be?” Turns out, harder than I thought. I kept handing the ball off when I meant to keep it, and vice versa. My quarterback ended up getting tackled for a loss more times than I’d like to admit. It was a mess.

Digging into the Settings

After getting frustrated, I finally decided to check the in-game settings. There’s got to be something useful.

I went through the menus, looking for anything related to controls or gameplay tutorials. Eventually, I found some basic explanations, but it was vague, it was not specific to the read option.

Experimentation Time

Okay, so the in-game help was a partial letdown. Time for some good old-fashioned trial and error. I loaded up a practice mode and started experimenting. I focused on a few key things:

  • The Pre-Snap Read:I started to be more patient and look at the defensive end or linebacker, which I could tell was the key defender to read.
  • The Button Timing:I played around with holding and releasing the handoff button. Figuring out the timing was the hardest part, for sure.
  • The Stick Movement: I realized after the snap, it will depends on my decision.

Putting It All Together

After a bunch of practice reps, it started to click. I could see the defensive end crashing down, so I pulled the ball and ran with the QB. Other times, I saw him hesitate, so I handed it off to the running back. It felt awesome when I finally started making the right reads consistently.

Still Learning

I’m definitely not a master yet. There are still times I mess up the read or fumble the timing. But I’ve made a ton of progress from where I started. My advice? Be patient, practice a lot, and don’t be afraid to experiment. It’s all about getting a feel for the timing and recognizing what the defense is giving you.
