Okay, so today I wanted to get better at my ball handling, and I remembered that Rajon Rondo drill I saw on YouTube a while back. I figured, “Why not give it a shot?”

Rondo Basketball: Master the Fake Pass (Skills & Drills)

Getting Started

First things first, I grabbed my basketball and headed out to the driveway. It’s not exactly an NBA court, but it’s got a hoop and a মোটামুটি flat surface, so it works. I didn’t bother with any fancy warm-up, just a few stretches and some basic dribbling to get the feel of the ball.

The Drill Itself

The “Rondo” drill, as I understand it, is all about quick hands and ball control. It’s pretty simple in concept:

  • Start with the ball in one hand.
  • Wrap the ball around your back to the other hand.
  • Bring it back around front, switching hands again.
  • Keep it going, back and forth, back and forth.

Sounds easy, right? Well, let me tell you, it’s trickier than it looks. At first, I was fumbling the ball all over the place. It kept slipping out of my hands, bouncing off my back, you name it. I felt like a total klutz.

Practice and (Some) Progress

But I stuck with it. I told myself, “Just keep going, even if you mess up.” And slowly but surely, I started to get the hang of it. My hands got a little quicker, my movements a little smoother. I wasn’t dropping the ball nearly as much.

I probably spent a good 20 minutes just going back and forth, back and forth. My arms started to burn a little, but it felt good. Like I was actually accomplishing something.

I even tried to spice things up a bit, changing the speed, trying to go lower to the ground. That definitely made it harder, but it also made it more fun. I added some variation.

  • Wrap around the waist.
  • Wrap around the head.
  • Wrap around one leg, then other leg.

The Takeaway

By the end, I wasn’t exactly Rajon Rondo, but I definitely felt like I’d improved. My hands felt more comfortable with the ball, and I could see how this drill could really help with ball control in a game situation. Plus, it was a decent workout!

I’m definitely going to keep practicing this one. Maybe one day I’ll be able to do it behind my back without looking like a complete fool. But even if I don’t, it’s a fun way to work on my game and get a little exercise.
