Okay, so today I decided to dive into something called “Mallorca prediction.” Honestly, I had no idea what it was at first, but it sounded intriguing. Sounded like some fortune-telling stuff, maybe?
First Steps: What the Heck is it?
I started by, you know, just looking it up. I was like, “Okay, what is this thing?” Turns out, it’s probably about predicting football/soccer match results in Mallorca. I am guessing and did’t search too much, just use my instinct.
Gathering My Tools (Aka My Laptop and Coffee)
I got my laptop, grabbed a big cup of coffee. Then, I thought, “Where do I even start?”.
Trying to Find Data
My first thought was data. I needed numbers, scores, player stats, anything! I browsed around some websites, and it was kind of a mess. Lots of information, but scattered all over the place.
The “Model” Confusion
Next, I tried to figure out what kind of “prediction model” to use. It can be a very huge topic. Should I try some super-complex machine learning algorithm? Or maybe just a simple formula based on past wins and losses?I spent a good hour just reading about different approaches, and my head started to spin a little.
My Simple (and Probably Wrong) Approach
I am not super familiar with AI area. So I decided to keep it simple. I took the last five match results for the Mallorca team (I think? It was hard to tell which team was which sometimes!). I looked at whether they won, lost, or drew. Then, I just…kind of…averaged it out? Like, if they won 3 out of 5, I said they had a 60% chance of winning the next one. Super scientific, I know.
The Big Prediction (Drumroll Please…)
Based on my super-sophisticated method, I predicted… they would probably win their next match! I have no idea if that’s right, but it’s what my very basic calculation gave me.
Lessons Learned (and a Bit of Confusion)
