Alright, so check it out, today I’m gonna walk you through my latest little project: customizing a New York Yankees cap. Yeah, a classic, I know. But I wanted to give it my own spin, ya dig?

New York Yankees Cap Guide: Choosing Your New York Hat

First things first, I grabbed a plain, navy blue Yankees cap. Nothing fancy, just the standard issue. I wanted a clean canvas to work with. Snagged it from a local sports shop. Always gotta support local, right?

Next, I spent way too long scrolling through design ideas online. I was bouncing between wanting something super loud and in-your-face, and something subtle and understated. Ended up going with something in between. I decided to add some embroidery. Specifically, I wanted to add the classic “NY” logo on the side of the cap, but in a graffiti style font.

Now, I’m no embroidery expert, not even close. So, I knew I’d have to outsource that part. Did some digging around online and found a local shop that does custom embroidery. Sent them my design – a vectorized version of the graffiti “NY” logo. They quoted me a price, which was a little steep, but I figured, hey, you gotta pay for quality, right?

A week later, I got the cap back. The embroidery looked freaking awesome! The colors were vibrant, and the stitching was super clean. I was stoked. But I wasn’t done yet.

I wanted to add a little something extra. So, I decided to distress the cap a bit. Not like, full-on ripped-and-torn grunge, but just a little bit of wear and tear to give it that lived-in look. I took some sandpaper and lightly roughed up the brim and the edges of the cap. Just enough to fade the color a bit and add some character.

After that, I took a needle and some black thread and added a few small stitches to the brim. Not really for any functional purpose, just for aesthetics. I wanted to give it that hand-made, DIY vibe.

And that was pretty much it! The whole process took me about two weeks, mostly waiting for the embroidery. I’m super happy with how it turned out. It’s a unique piece that reflects my own style. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter. People always ask me where I got it, and I get to tell them I made it myself. Which is pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

  • Grabbed a plain Yankees cap.
  • Designed a graffiti-style “NY” logo.
  • Outsourced the embroidery to a local shop.
  • Distressed the cap with sandpaper.
  • Added some hand-stitched details.

So yeah, that’s the story of my customized Yankees cap. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot along the way. And now I’ve got a one-of-a-kind piece that I can rock with pride. Maybe I’ll do another one soon. Who knows?

Final Result

The cap looks dope! Seriously, it’s exactly what I envisioned. The embroidery pops, the distressing gives it character, and the hand-stitching adds that personal touch. Definitely worth the effort and the money. Now I just gotta figure out what to customize next…
