Okay, so, today I decided to finally get a blobfish in Stardew Valley. I’d seen pictures of these goofy-looking dudes, and I just had to have one. I mean, who wouldn’t want a perpetually frowning fish in their fish pond?
Getting Started: The Fishing Rod
First things first, I needed to actually catch one. You’d use fishing rod to get it! And from what I gathered, blobfish aren’t exactly swimming around Willy’s shop. You need to do some late-night fishing during the Night Market. I packed a supper, grabbed my best rod (Iridium, baby!), and some bait. The key, I read, is to fish between 5 PM and 2 AM in the submarine. I’m not a patient person, so I stocked up on coffee too. Triple Shot Espresso, to be exact.
The Waiting Game (Ugh)
So I got to the Night Market, found the submarine, and hopped in. Paid my fee, and the sub started its descent. The fishing spot is right there, inside the sub. I cast my line, and… waited. And waited. And waited some more. Seriously, fishing can be a real test of patience. I caught a bunch of other stuff – Midnight Carp, Spook Fish, and even a weird Midnight Squid. Cool, but not what I was after.
I probably spent a good two in-game hours just casting and reeling, casting and reeling. My character was probably buzzing from all that coffee. Finally, finally, I felt a different kind of tug. It felt… heavier? I reeled it in with bated breath (pun intended!), and there it was! A blobfish! It looked just as grumpy and blobby as I’d imagined.
Building the Perfect Pond
Now that I had my prized blobfish, it was time to give it a good home. I’d already built a fish pond on my farm (you need Robin for that, by the way), so I just tossed the little guy in. One blobfish alone is kind of lonely, though. And apparently, they give different items depending on the pond population.
The waiting part 2 (Ugh Again)
Fish ponds aren’t instant gratification. You gotta wait for the fish to, well, do something. And reproduce, I guess. Every few days, the blobfish would have a little thought bubble above the pond. Sometimes it wanted something random, like a Nautilus Shell or some Refined Quartz. I’d have to run around, find the item, and toss it in the pond to keep the blobfish happy.
Slowly but surely, my blobfish population grew. From one lonely frowny face to a whole pond full of them! The best part? Blobfish can produce Roe (which you can age in a Preserves Jar for a nice profit), but more excitingly, they can also give you Pearls! I was stoked when I got my first Pearl. Totally worth the fishing marathon and the random item fetch quests.
- Pro-tip:
- Keep an eye on the pond’s capacity. You can upgrade it with Robin to hold more fish.
- Don’t forget to clear out any weeds that grow around the pond. The fish don’t like that.
- Blobfish roe makes you a good cash, aging will be better!
So yeah, that’s how I got my blobfish farm going. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it. Now I have a pond full of adorably grumpy fish and a steady supply of Roe and the occasional Pearl. Mission accomplished!
