Okay, so you wanna know about Ryan Garcia’s walking around weight, huh? Alright, lemme tell you my experience trying to figure this out and kinda replicating his routine-ish.

Ryan Garcia Walking Around Weight Affects His Performance?

First off, I got curious. Like, this dude is fast, explosive, but what’s he packing on outside fight camp? So, I started digging around online. Saw some stuff about him being around 160-165 lbs outta camp, maybe even pushing 170 sometimes. Seemed hefty considering he fights at 135, sometimes 140.

So, I decided to track my own weight and see how it fluctuated with different training intensities. I’m not a pro boxer, obviously, but I do train regularly. I usually hover around 175lbs, and I’m trying to get down to 160.

My little experiment went like this:

  • Week 1: Just normal training. Three days of weightlifting, two days of light cardio. Ate pretty much whatever I wanted (within reason). Weighed in at 175.5 lbs.
  • Week 2: Upped the cardio. Added two extra sessions of HIIT. Still lifted weights, but lighter. Started being a bit more conscious of my diet – less junk, more protein. Weighed in at 173 lbs. See, the cardio mattered.
  • Week 3: Tried to mimic a “fight camp” diet (sort of). High protein, moderate carbs, low fat. Lots of chicken, fish, vegetables. Cut out all the sugary drinks and processed snacks. Started doing some light bag work and shadow boxing, focusing on speed and technique. Weighed in at 170 lbs. It was getting hard and I wasn’t even fighting.
  • Week 4: Continued the diet and training from week 3. Added some longer runs for endurance. Focused on sleep and recovery. Weighed in at 167lbs. Felt lighter, faster, but also kinda tired.

I wasn’t trying to cut to 135 like Ryan, but I wanted to experience that weight change. It’s tough! I can only imagine what it’s like for the pros who have to cut insane amounts of weight.

What I realized is that Ryan Garcia’s “walking around weight” is probably real. It’s easy to balloon up when you’re not constantly dieting and training for a fight. The discipline required to stay lean year-round is insane.

Ryan Garcia Walking Around Weight Affects His Performance?

My takeaway? Respect to fighters who manage their weight properly. It’s a HUGE part of the game. Also, cutting weight sucks.

Next time I wanna know what kind of protein powder he uses!
