Okay, so today I got this crossword puzzle, and I was just stuck on this one clue, “send as payment.” It’s a real head-scratcher, right? I mean, there are so many ways you could send money these days, so how do you narrow it down to just one word that fits in a crossword?

So, I started by doing what anyone would do – I googled it. I typed in “send as payment crossword clue” and a bunch of results popped up. A lot of these crossword solver sites, you know? They all seemed to think the answer was “REMIT”. I was like, “Remit? Is that even a word?” I mean, I’ve heard of it, but it’s not something I’d use in everyday conversation.

Anyway, I looked at a few different sites, and they all had the same answer: REMIT. It’s a five-letter word, and it apparently means to send money. Still, it felt kind of weird to me. But I figured, hey, these sites are supposed to be experts, so who am I to argue?

  • Tried searching for “send as payment crossword” on Google.
  • Found a bunch of crossword solver websites.
  • Most of them suggested “REMIT” as the answer.

I plugged “REMIT” into the crossword, and it fit! It actually worked with all the other clues around it. It felt so weird, but also kind of cool to have figured it out. I read some more about what these crossword clues are all about. They’re not always just straight definitions. Sometimes they use wordplay, like puns or anagrams, to make you think a little harder. They call people who are really good at crossword puzzles “cruciverbalists,” according to Merriam-Webster. That’s a fun word.

I still wasn’t completely sold on “REMIT” being a word people actually use, so I dug a little deeper. I found some articles about it, and it turns out it’s a legit word. It’s just not one that comes up in casual chats very often. I think what happened here is the clue was looking for a specific word that means “to send money,” and “REMIT” fits that bill perfectly, even if it’s not a super common word.

My Conclusion

So, yeah, that was my little adventure with the “send as payment” crossword clue. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, going from confused to curious to finally figuring it out. It’s amazing how much you can learn from just one little crossword clue! And hey, now I know a new word, “REMIT,” even if I might not use it every day. And “cruciverbalists!” That’s going in the vocabulary bank for sure.
