So, I was digging around the internet the other day, looking for some information about racehorses and this guy, Ogden Phipps II, kept popping up. I got curious. Turns out, he’s a big deal in the horse racing world, like his dad, Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps, who passed away a few years back, was.
First, I started reading about him on this news site, the Thoroughbred Daily News. They had him on their podcast, which I thought was pretty cool. He is involved with the China Horse Club, which I didn’t know much about but it seems like they’re making waves in American horse racing. I didn’t do more digging about this part. The China Horse Club is not that important in my sharing.
Then, things got interesting. I found out his dad had this groom named Shug McGaughey, who eventually became the trainer for the Phipps family’s horses. Must have been a dream come true for him, right? Like, imagine going from grooming horses to training them for a big-name family. I saw people say this Shug guy is a legend and his life was made in 1986, pretty impressive.
But here’s the kicker: this Ogden Phipps II, he’s not just about horses. He’s also a big shot in the business world. I stumbled upon this article about him being a co-founding partner of some company called Snow Phipps. You can tell he is very rich. Sounds fancy, huh? They’re a private equity firm in New York City. So, he’s got his hands in both horse racing and high finance.

I guess.
